The SMARTER project aims to improve the current monitoring approach to energy consumption of homes and businesses in Manchester, by allowing real time monitoring with the overall aim of reducing CO2 emissions and reducing energy spend to those who take part. Each home and business receives energy monitoring equipment and has access to an account which enables the viewing of live energy consumption information. Not only can users view their data but also compare it against other users, their own previous usage and also download reports. The SMARTER project is being part financed by the Carbon Challenge Fund from the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) and Manchester City Council's Carbon Innovation Fund.
